This place is not a 'home away from home' yet. I don't know if it ever will be, mostly because of the things listed below. They are what I miss most about home.
Living in a house, not a room.
Being able to open the fridge or cupboard and decide what I want to eat.
Not getting lost when I drive somewhere.
My family.
My pets.
A real bathroom.
Visiting Aunt Jen on weekends and spending hours there.
Cooking for my family.
Having a sense of privacy.
Not paying for stuff.
My favorite radio station.
Watching TV or a movie with Tia.
Winchester jokes.
Hearing crickets at night.
The crazies in Brattleboro.
Comfort food.
Laying in bed talking to Tia for hours after we should be asleep.
"Night, love you, see you in the morning."
It's hard to be away from home and family, I know. Just get through each day, write lots of emails to family and focus on the cool stuff you are learning. It's not forever. You can do this.
ReplyDeleteaww I'm getting teary eye'd
ReplyDeleteOk, what's a Winchester joke??
It is a strange adjustment to make! I just returned home after a couple of weeks at my favorite 'resort' - working, being cooked for (great OG veggi. food!) & soaking in hot tubs - when I'm *home* here, I miss a lot of aspects of community life, when I was there, I missed my grandkids & dog!! Sigh.
ReplyDeleteBest of luck to you & may you begin to make 'new home' of your surroundings!
A Winchester joke is a joke about the town of Winchester, which was right near my home town. They're not very nice, but they are always good for putting a smile on my face. They aren't even very funny, but I miss them.
ReplyDelete"How do you know the tooth brush came from Winchester?"
"Because if it were made anywhere is it would be called a teeth brush!"
